Medical Marijuana Dispensary Approved In Phoenixville

PHOENIXVILLE, PA — A medical marijuana dispensary has been approved in Phoenixville, Governor Wolf announced, as the state’s program continues to expand. It’s the eighth dispensary that has been approved in Pennsylvania and the first in Chester County.

Cure Pennsylvania has passed the necessary inspections from the Department of Health, and has been cleared to begin operations, officials said. The dispensary will be located on 500 Kimberton Road.

“Each week, we are making great strides in expanding our network where patients will be able to get medical marijuana,” Governor Wolf said. “The approval of two more dispensaries is another positive step forward. Work continues to move patients one step closer to having medical marijuana as a tool to help with their medical condition.”

In the same announcement last week, Gov. Wolf said that Cure Pennsylvania, a dispensary in Lancaster, had also been approved. A dispensary was also recently approved in Plymouth: Ilera Healthcare. There are now eight dispensaries that have been approved around the state.

Patients who want to access medical marijuana must obtain a physician’s certification from an approved doctor proving that they suffer from one of 17 serious medical conditions. A registration process is then required for patients to receive a medical marijuana card, allowing them access to state-licensed dispensaries.

The Lancaster location is set to open on March. 9. An opening date has not yet been confirmed for the Phoenixville location, although it is expected to be in 2018, as soon as construction is complete on the new building.

According to the state, more than 16,600 patients have registered to participate in the medical marijuana program, and more than 3,800 of them have already been certified by a physician.

The state’s medical marijuana program was signed into law in April 2016. Full implementation of the medical marijuana program, including the approval of more locations to sell to patients, is expected at some point in 2018.
