Varsity Competes at Kansas Relays

Thursday, 24 Apr 2008

A group of Regional Qualifiers from the Royse City Track Team attended the Kansas Relays this past weekend in Lawrence Kansas.  Participation in the State relays is by invitation only, making the meet very competitive.  Our warm-blooded Texas kids were set back on day one of the meet by the extreme cold, but the weather warmed up and so did our team, finishing strong.
Megan Frausto took first place in the long jump with a personal best of 19 ‘ 3 1/2 “, the jump places Megan 10th in the nation!
The girls sprint relay team took 4th place with a time of 49.85.  Relay team members are Alex Lopez Rogina,  Carmisha Harper, Jocelyn Denham, and Raven Alexander.   Luke Beck placed 5th in pole vault.  Other participants in the relays were: Charvia Bell, Skyler Strahm, Autumn Landers, Chris Smith, Trevor White, Elias Kawesa, Brian Irby, Justin Rogers, and BJ Farrar.

If You Build It - Will It Fly?

Thursday, 17 Apr 2008

Looking to the sky over the high school the last few mornings you may have asked yourself, “is that a bird, a plane, or possibly a UFO?”  No, they are kites made by the students in Ms. Jones and Ms. Angle’s PAP Geometry Class.  Students spent the last two weeks researching, planning, and constructing a kite to integrate what they have learned about different geometric shapes, polyhedrons, angles, lines and scale drawings. If you build it-will it fly?  Not always, as students put their products to the test some made modifications or as we call them technical adjustments to increase flight capabilities.  Overall, the students enjoyed the perfect weather and opportunity to relate math outside the classroom walls.
