Davis Elementary Homecoming Week with College Highlights

Monday, 22 Oct 2007

teachers-in-college-t-shirts.JPGDuring Homecoming Week, Davis Elementary has expanded the student’s focus to include the importance of College Preparation.  We used this week of Fun Dress Days to add College themes to help each student to understand that advanced education is their ticket to a successful future.

When teachers arrived at school on Monday of Homecoming week they were greeted at their classroom door by signs, in their college school colors, showing their college degree(s), and college logos.   This was a way of showing the students all of the colleges that are represented in the lives of Davis Elementary staff and illustrating how college has benefited each of our educators.    There is also a College Week bulletin board in the hallway stating, “I Am College Bound” that shows each of the college mascots where Davis teachers have graduated…and the added statement “You Can’t Hide That Bulldog Pride!”

During this week, we have had two College Bound lesson plans, at all grade levels that helped each student to visualize themselves attending or preparing for college.  On Thursday, we sent home a letter and contract asking for parents to commit to the efforts of their child to achieve their full academic potential and career dreams.

At Davis, we are proud to have had such a wonderful Homecoming week of hall decorating, face tattoos, and spirit chains to support the football team.  But this year, we have added one more dimension – the focus of a bright academic future for each of our elementary students.

Themes: Monday – Slip into College for a Successful Future - Wear slippers or houseshoes to school
Tuesday – College Prepares for YOUR Future - Dress for success in your future career
Wednesday – College Spirit Day - College jersey or t-shirt with jeans
Thursday – Hat’s Off to College Success - College hat or cap
Friday – College Puts Green in your Jeans - Jeans with Spirit shirt or RC team jersey
